Mudlarking Information for Tourists

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you cannot search the Thames foreshore or take items without a permit from the Port of London Authority.

“This includes all searching, metal detecting, ‘beachcombing’, scraping and digging.” For more information, please see: https://pla.co.uk/thames-foreshore-permits

I get how frustrating this is – trust me, it’s even more frustrating when you live by the River and can’t do it – but there are good reasons for this.

You can of course enjoy the foreshore for walks and the views if you are mindful of the tides (Bankside is a particularly glorious place for this) and wear suitable footwear. 🙂

If you want a souvenir of the River, you can peruse my shop or purchase items from other mudlarks with a creative permit.
